Today the students visited the Norwegian Coastal Administration. The students started the day at 0800 where they took the 01 bus to Horton, to meet Senior Advisor Kathrine Idas. Throughout the morning the students learned about contingency planning and emergency response. NCA's main tasks include piloting and vessel traffic services, navigational aids and managing governmental oil spill responses (from ships). The company takes preventive measures (through requirements, coastal channels, towing systems) and risk reduction response measures (through equipment, human resources, sensitivity maps, training and exercises). After the lecture, the group had the opportunity to explore the warehouse facility and see the equipment used. *Pictured below is the liquid gold, HFO- Heavy fuel oil, and oil booms)

After the focus on preventing acute pollution, the cadets visited Karljohansvern where they toured the Maritime Museum and the KNM Narvik. The group explored the engine room, the bridge, living quarters, mess deck and the main deck of the ship. It was a beautiful day for the students to explore the area, we have been pretty lucky with the weather so far!
