July 1

The students are safe and had an enjoyable weekend. The cadets learned that Norway does things a bit different than the U.S when it comes to their free time due to the immense amount of daylight, but with the available bus route running at all hours, the cadets have access to a safe and secure way home, with no worries! The group (MMA and International students) got together on Saturday for a BBQ.
With week one wrapped up the students are adjusting to the time zone and the cultural differences across the pond. Jet lag lasted longer than expected for most but with the added rest this weekend the students were ready for their day in Oslo exploring multiple museums exploring the Norwegian Maritime History. The day started off at the Viking Ship Museum where the students saw artifacts from the viking era, and watched a fascinating film through the dawn of the ages. The group then made their way over to two other Maritime museums which held a lot of ancient history as well, and the group even got to take a tour of the ship. At the final museum (Kon-Tiki) the group got the pleasure to hear Mr. Thor Heyerdahl Jr. present on the Wakes of his Father (a Norwegian adventurer and ethnographer who sailed 8,000 km across the Pacific Ocean in a hand-built raft from South American to Tuamotu islands.)

After the students finished exploring the museums they had two hours to explore the city of Oslo. Oslo is a fantastic city which offers a lot of entertainment and shopping in Norway. You never know, your cadet may have picked you up a souvenir today in Oslo to show you their appreciation!
